Screenshots of a ¥300,000 USS or JU lot look cheap. That number is the hammer (落札価格) — the bid that won. It is not 乗り出し, not FOB, and not “drive it to Sasebo this afternoon.”
At this budget you are usually looking at an older kei or a tired compact. Many are R or RA (修復歴). That can be a valid buy if the sheet is honest and the stack still fits your wallet.
KMC JAPAN helps customers in Sasebo and across Kyushu find Japanese used cars, including affordable kei cars, compact cars, SUVs, minivans and hybrids. SUVs and late hybrids almost never live at a ¥300,000 hammer unless something is wrong on the sheet. We work from Ogori, Fukuoka. Hall fees are set by the auction; we invoice the balance after a win — we do not publish a fake USS tariff as if it were ours.
Ask for a real stack on a lot Proxy bidding
The hammer is only line 1
Think in two envelopes:
- To our yard — hammer + auction house buyer charges + consumption tax where it applies + recycle (if billed) + inland transport (陸送) + our work on that bid
- After the yard — either Japanese 名義変更 / 車庫証明 / plates / insurance, or export deregistration, port, and ocean freight
Deposit and contract come first: auction proxy bidding. If you do not win, the deposit comes back minus bank charges, unless you refuse a win inside your limit.
What usually sits on top of ¥300,000 (order of magnitude)
These are shopping ranges, not a quote. Kyushu halls, distance, tax treatment, and whether shaken is alive all move the total.
- Auction house buyer fee — often tens of thousands of yen; some halls scale with price. The sheet or the member invoice is the source, not a blog table
- Consumption tax — commonly 10% on the taxable parts of that invoice
- Recycle fee — usually printed on the auction sheet (often roughly ¥8,000–¥20,000 by vehicle type; check the actual lot)
- 陸送 — a Fukuoka-area hall to Ogori is a short haul; Tokyo or Kansai to Kyushu is a different bill. Sasebo delivery is longer again
- Storage — if payment or pickup slips, the hall or yard charges by the day
For a local Kyushu kei with remaining shaken, it is common for yard-in cost to land nearer ¥350,000–¥450,000 than ¥300,000. That is still not plates and not insurance.
If you will drive it in Japan
Add the civilian stack (your city, not ours):
- 車庫証明 — drafts: kmcjapan.org — prefecture cash fees are extra
- Name change, plates, and the transport-office lines
- Automobile tax timing (yearly bill still comes)
- 任意 insurance — we do not sell it; 自賠責 vs 任意
- Shaken if it is due — a “cheap” hammer with inspection next month can need another ¥40,000–¥80,000+ for a simple kei, more if the shop finds rust or pads. Ownership overview: cost to own a car in Japan
Keys-in-hand for a ¥300,000 hammer kei you can register in Fukuoka with shaken left often sits in a roughly ¥400,000–¥550,000 conversation before optional insurance. If shaken is dead, or the car is R and needs work, budget past that. Not a quote — send the sheet.
What even exists at this money: used cars under ¥500,000.
If you will export it
You skip Japanese road registration. You do not skip hall fees, 陸送 to the yard/port, export deregistration, handling, and freight. Ocean freight and destination duty are often larger than the car at this hammer. We quote those lines on the actual lot and port — we will not invent a worldwide shipping tariff here.
Tell us country and port in the first email. Age, steering, and 修復歴 rules are your import job; we will not hide R on documents.
When ¥300,000 is a false bargain
- Shaken expired or a few weeks left
- R / RA with a comment you cannot read — sheet guide
- Flood, salt, or *** (not a normal grade)
- A compact that needs 車庫証明 plus a big tax band when a kei would have done
How to get a number you can use
- Send lot number or “kei, max hammer ¥300,000, Japan use / export”
- We read the grade in English from Ogori
- After a win we invoice hammer + hall + tax + recycle + 陸送 + our fee as quoted on that contract
- Then we either start 名義変更 or export — not both on one agreement
English desk: English-speaking car dealer in Japan. Kyushu residents: buy in Kyushu as a foreigner. CFA Sasebo: about 1.5–2 hours to Ogori — affordable near the base.
Not legal, tax, or shipping advice. Auction cars are as-is on the sheet. Ask for the stack on the specific lot before you treat ¥300,000 as the price of the car.
