Tosu (鳥栖) is Saga Prefecture’s highway and rail hub — outlets, logistics parks, and a short hop into Fukuoka. Saga City is further west. Foreign staff and families here often shop “in Fukuoka” without realizing the closest English-speaking exporter may be KMC JAPAN in Ogori, just across the prefectural line.

Ogori → Tosu is commonly 10–20 minutes by car. Ogori → Saga City is longer (often around 40–50 minutes, traffic varies). Kurume is the other neighbor: used cars in Kurume for foreigners. Prefecture-wide paperwork: buying in Fukuoka as a foreigner (same resident-card logic; the office changes if your address is Saga).

Where to buy

  • Tosu roadside lots — kei cars and compacts aimed at commuters using the Kyushu Expressway. Japanese-only contracts are normal.
  • Saga City dealers — more “prefectural capital” stock; still plan on Japanese 車検証 talk unless you bring help.
  • KMC JAPAN (Ogori, Fukuoka) — auction sheets in English, cars that can later be exported, short drive or meet-up for Tosu residents.

Saga address vs Fukuoka address

The car follows your registered address and parking place, not the dealer’s prefecture.

  • If you live in Tosu or Saga City, 車庫証明 / kei parking notification goes to the Saga police that cover that stall — not Fukuoka City.
  • Name change for ordinary cars uses the Saga transport branch when the new 使用の本拠 is in Saga. 軽自動車 uses the Saga light-vehicle association.
  • If you live in Ogori or Kurume and only work in Tosu, Fukuoka offices apply.

What to drive
