Sasebo VRO is the Vehicle Registration Office (often grouped with PMV — privately owned vehicle) at CFA Sasebo. It registers cars for people with SOFA status. It is not the Japanese transport branch, and it is not KMC JAPAN.

We are a civilian used-car and export desk in Ogori, Fukuoka. We explain auction cars in English and can source kei cars, compact cars, SUVs, minivans and hybrids for Sasebo and Kyushu. VRO hours, form names, insurance lists, and whether a Japanese-plated car can be put on SOFA plates are decided only by the current CFA Sasebo VRO / PMV handout. Read that first — then buy the car.

What to do before you pay a deposit

  1. Get the current VRO / PMV brief (website, Facebook page, or the office). Requirements change.
  2. Ask whether you may register a car that is still on Japanese plates, or only a car already in the SOFA system.
  3. Ask which inspections they want (Japanese shaken vs a base safety check vs both).
  4. Ask which insurers they accept. Civilian 任意 is not automatically VRO-legal.
  5. Then shop: where to buy near the base, affordable cars near Sasebo Navy Base.

Buying from a Japanese dealer (including KMC)

KMC JAPAN helps customers in Sasebo and across Kyushu find Japanese used cars, including affordable kei cars, compact cars, SUVs, minivans and hybrids. English desk: English speaking used car dealer near Sasebo (Ogori, ~1.5–2 hours). Landing: military & foreign residents.

Tell us in the first message that you need VRO registration. We can look for cars that still have shaken, clean auction grades, and paperwork a buyer can take to the base. We cannot stamp VRO forms or promise a plate the office has not approved.

Typical papers VRO will care about

Expect to show SOFA / ID, license, proof of insurance they accept, and vehicle identity (chassis number matching 車検証 or export documents). If the car is coming off Japanese registration, there may be an erasure or transfer step — only VRO and the Japanese office can sequence that. Do not skip it because a Facebook ad said “easy transfer.”

When you PCS

Unregister at VRO and do not leave a Japanese 車検証 in your name. Options: sell, export, transfer, or scrap. Buyback: kmccar.com.
