Year Restrictions
8 years from manufacture (standard rates)
Tanzania is a right-hand-drive (left-hand traffic) market. Age is counted from the year of manufacture, not first registration.
Vehicles up to 8 years old are assessed at standard TRA rates. Older vehicles can still be imported but attract extra excise (an age penalty). The Finance Bill 2026 revised those penalty bands (for example 8–10 years, 10–20 years, and over 20 years) — confirm the current band on TRA's Used Motor Vehicle Valuation System (UMVVS) before you bid.
Only RHD passenger cars are practical for Tanzania roads.
