Importation of used vehicles with more than 15 years old is restricted in Canada.

Import Duty: Non-NAFTA vehicles: 6.1% duty.

NAFTA cars (55% content):  Duty-free.

Goods & Services Tax (GST):  5% GST applied immediately.

Provincial Sales Tax (PST):  Payable at registration, based on the province's tax rate.

Air Conditioning Tax:  $100 payable for vehicles with air conditioning.

Excess Weight Tax:  Additional excise taxes for vehicles over 2,007 kg.

Gas Guzzler Tax:  New vehicles with low fuel efficiency are subject to excise tax.

Other Fees:

RIV Fee: $195.00 + GST in most provinces, collected by the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.

Provincial Safety & Emissions Inspection Fees:  Check with the motor vehicle department of your province.

Canada Import Regulations: Original Title, Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin or Certificate of Origin (front and back).
